Overview
“Kunst am Bau” is more than just decorative embellishment—it is an integral part of architectural culture. It stems from a legal requirement that, when constructing new public buildings, squares, streets, and green spaces, between 0.5 and 2 percent of the construction costs must be allocated to contemporary art.
The forms of expression are diverse: sculptures, murals, experimental installations—both indoors and outdoors, permanent or temporary. The works are always created in direct relation to the specific location and its function.
The State of Berlin and the Neukölln district are committed to this architectural tradition and strengthen the significance of Percent for Art through education, maintenance, and documentation.
This digital archive documents the works created in the district’s public spaces and is continuously expanded. The projects can be explored on an interactive map.
