Detlef Mallwitz: Stadtnägel

The work “Stadtnägel” was created as part of the art competition for the redevelopment of Karl-Marx-Straße in Berlin-Neukölln. Detlef Mallwitz opted for a selective intervention using bollards: The “Stadtnägel” replace the standard bollards at various locations and deliberately break away from the usual pattern. On the median island near Café Rix, he created a cloud-shaped formation in which the bollards interact playfully: they either mirror the order of the sidewalk or disrupt it by overlapping one another. All 20 bollard heads were individually forged and are unique.
