Lipschitzplatz

Lipschitzplatz is the heart of Gropiusstadt: centrally located, easily accessible, and used by many people every day. And yet it often remains merely a place people pass through. The “Gropius' Kulturinseln” initiative aims to change that.

An art competition is being held for Lipschitzplatz, in which five invited artists will develop site-specific designs. The aim is not to create a finished work, but rather to adopt a process-oriented approach that will further develop the square over several years into a vibrant, evolving space—in collaboration with the neighborhood. The resulting structures are intended to improve the quality of the space, foster social interaction, and strengthen the Gropiusstadt Community Center as the square’s cultural anchor.

The competition process itself is participatory: the five submitted designs will be publicly exhibited in the foyer of the Gropiusstadt Community Center prior to the jury meeting. Residents of Gropiusstadt are invited to view the works and cast their votes.

The competition process is currently being prepared. More information will follow shortly.
