Wildmeisterdamm

On two Sundays each year, Wildmeisterdamm is transformed into an art trail as part of “Gropius' Kulturinseln.”

Wildmeisterdamm runs right through Gropiusstadt, connecting different neighborhoods with the adjacent landscape and bird sanctuary. It is a place of transition—between city and nature, between everyday life and a protected natural area. Each year, the program features a different theme that explores the history and dynamics of the location.

Wildmeisterdamm used to border with fields and a royal hunting ground, long before high-rises, playgrounds, and the bird sanctuary were built here. Buried in the ground around the path lie the roots of ancient trees, plans, and the lost cornerstone of Gropiusstadt. Hovering over it all is the postwar modernist ideal of light, fresh air, and sunshine.

In June and September 2026, it will become a site for artistic interventions in the ground and in the air. Artists, neighbors, visitors, and unexpected creatures explore the path, digging or drilling underground, picking up trails, and tracking fleeting movements in the air, wind, and birdsong. An artistic trailblazing, a departure amidst dog walks, fluttering newspapers, and Sunday coffee gatherings.

Kunst Werk Stadt Berlin, under the direction of Elisa Dierson and Katja Marie Voigt, is designing the 2026 Parcours under the topics BODEN + LÜFT.
