Public Art in Neukölln
Ornate designs and volcanoes at Koppelweg Elementary School and the Blueberry Children’s and Youth Center
Art in architecture is more than just decorative embellishment—it is an integral part of architectural culture. It enriches architecture and public spaces, shapes our surroundings, and influences our daily lives.
The exhibition in the foyer of the Kulturstall at Britz Palace presents two art-in-architecture projects at educational institutions in Neukölln: the art-in-architecture at Koppelweg Elementary School and at the Blueberry Children’s and Youth Center. The focus is on the twelve competition entries, including the award-winning designs “Schnörkel” by Christin Kaiser and “Vulkangarten” by Valeska Peschke, along with their implementation plans. The exhibited designs illustrate how artists take into account the unique features of each building as well as the needs of its users to create unique and site-specific works of art.
These examples also shed light on the complex and democratic process of art-in-architecture competitions. To make the exhibition accessible to a broad audience, a glossary in simple language is provided, explaining frequently used technical terms in the context of art in architecture.
A panel discussion will take place at the opening on October 9 at 6 p.m., during which participants in both competitions will share their experiences.
Participants in the discussion
Christin Kaiser (winner of the Koppelweg Art in Architecture competition)
Valeska Peschke (winner of the Blueberry Art in Architecture competition) and
